As soon as children begin to become interested in “real food,” many parents wonder what healthy snacks they can offer them.

In addition to vegetables, fruits, legumes and cereals, they can be offered some appetizing foods such as cookies, sticks and rolls, as long as they are homemade with natural healthy ingredients.

When preparing baked recipes for children, it is recommended to avoid white sugar and flour and prepare them so that the crust is soft, especially in the case of babies.

1. HOMEMADE SUGAR-FREE COOKIES FOR KIDS

Making homemade cookies is the best way to make sure that our cookies contain quality ingredients and that they are not loaded with sugar. And, to make healthy cookies for babies or children, you don’t need a lot of ingredients. A slight natural sweetness is enough to convince the little ones in terms of taste.

Ingredients (for about 20 cookies):

  • 180 g white spelt flour
  • 60 g fine oat flakes
  • 8-10 soft dates or 4-6 tablespoons of date paste or a very ripe banana
  • 40 ml olive oil
  • 60 ml date water or soaking water

Elaboration:

  1. If the dates are hard, soak them in water for a few hours (or overnight) before processing.
  2. Put the dates together with the olive oil and water in a blender or chopper and crush them until you get a thick pulp. As an alternative to whole dates, crush a ripe banana or use date paste.
  3. Form balls with the finished dough, flatten it into cookies, place them on a baking sheet or spread the dough and cut the cookies with a mold.
  4. Bake the cookies for 15-20 minutes at 180 ° C (upper / lower heat).

It is advisable not to go over the baking time, even if it seems that they are soft when they come out of the oven, because they harden when they cool.

Baby biscuits can be kept for several weeks if stored in a cool, dry place. If you want to bake a larger amount, you can freeze them and bake them again for a few minutes when necessary.

For older children, cookies can be supplemented with some vanilla or chopped nuts.

2. HOMEMADE SPELT STICKS FOR KIDS

Ingredients (for about 20 sticks):

  • 500 g spelt flour
  • 2 bananas (as ripe as possible)
  • 2 carrots
  • 150 g organic hydrogenated fat-free margarine
  • 2 teaspoons sesame
  • 3-4 teaspoons oatmeal

Elaboration:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees of circulating air.
  2. Crush the bananas.
  3. Peel the carrots and grate them finely.
  4. Mix and knead bananas, carrots, margarine and flour until a homogeneous dough is formed. The dough should still be a little sticky.
  5. Sprinkle sesame and oat flakes on a silicone sheet.
  6. Shape the spelt sticks, for this divide the dough into four parts and form sticks the thickness of a finger. Roll the dough over the sesame seeds and oatmeal to stick. In this way, spelt sticks are especially tasty.
  7. The finished spelt sticks are placed on a tray lined with baking paper and baked for about 20 minutes at 180 degrees. They are ready when crispy and slightly golden on the outside, but still somewhat soft on the inside.

3. HOMEMADE ROLLS FOR CHILDREN

  2. Cover with a tea towel and let stand for 30 minutes in a warm place.
  3. Meanwhile, peel the carrot and apple and grate it finely with the kitchen grater. Then add it to the dough and lock it well again.
  4. Form balls with the dough and place them on a baking sheet lined with baking paper, leaving enough space between them.
  5. Cover the baking sheet and let it sit in a warm place for another 30 minutes.
  6. Bake at a top and bottom of 180 °C or in a fan oven of 160 °C for about 20 to 25 minutes on the middle rack.
  7. Determine if the muffins are baked well with the dipstick test. Don’t take too long to prevent the crust from hardening.
  8. Take the finished rolls out of the oven and let them cool.

These rolls can be frozen without problems and, if necessary, thawed at room temperature. They are perfect to take and consume between meals.
